So I've gotten the new Wednesday circular from both City Market and Safeway. Safeway has avocados ($1.00 ea.) medium size navel oranges (.39/lb) and Tropicana o.j. ($2.50 ea.) on sale this week as well as organic greens ($3.99/lb box.) City Market has Laura's Natural Ground Beef ($3.99/lb) and red and yellow bell peppers, english cucumbers (both a buck ea.), and Ahi Tuna ($6.99/lb) on sale. I think we'll be having Seared Ahi Tuna with an Orange Avocado salsa this week. Horizon organic milk is also on sale. Time to make some more yogurt. Homemade yogurt not only tastes great it is so much cheaper and better for you than store bought and only has the ingredients in it you chose.
How to make yogurt:
Rinse a bowl and several glass jars with boiling water. Take half a gallon of organic milk and bring it to 180 degrees in a double boiler. Cool it to between 100 and 110 degrees. Take 8oz of some starter yogurt (use organic plain purchased yogurt your first time) and dump it in your bowl, whisk until smooth. When your milk has cooled to the right tempurature start whisking it into your yogurt enough to make the mixture easily pourable. Then pour the yogurt mixture back into the pot and whisk until thoroughly combined. Pour into your prepared jars and then put into a warm (100-110) degree spot to culture. I put mine into a little cooler filled with 110 degree water and then leave it for 4-6 hours. Then refrigerate. I like mine plain but add some organic fruit or jam for a sweeter flavor.
