The Denver Center is proud to present the Denver premiere of Mel Brooks’ monster musical Young Frankenstein for a limited two week engagement.  From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers comes this monster new musical comedy.

A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks' classic comedy masterpiece, the story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein as he attempts to complete his grandfather's masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor, his curvaceous lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved madcap fiancé Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster -- but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications.

Wine by mail with Free shipping

My Wines Direct is an online wine retailer that ships wine for free.  I've used this as a gift when I'm visiting(since you can't bring wine on flights anymore)  and don't know the area's wine stores or in some cases I do know the wine stores.  For the Memorial Day week-end My Wines Direct is offering special discounts and with code MEM20 you can get an additional $20.00 off!  I've really enjoyed the BBQ Best selection of six bottles. Eating well in the backcountry -Make your own Dehydrated foods

I like food and I like to eat well.  The food you end up with in the backcountry can be, well, not so good.  When we're out we want simple just add hot water and eat kind of food.  It is quick and easy to make, light weight and easy to clean up after.  After a hard day I don't want to mess with much more than that.  But some of those pre-packaged dinners are filled with crap, and really expensive.  So I make my own for a quarter of the price.  I have a dehydrator that can dehydrate everything from soup to smoothies.  I also will buy fruit when it is on special (mangoes are $1.00 each at City Market this week) and dehydrate it for snacks.  Dehydrated food doesn't look all that good until it is re-hydrated but ohhh it is so tasty and made with all the ingredients you put in it.  I use an American Harvester Dehydrator that has served me well for many years

Had enough of Vail's winter? Ready to fly the coop? Check Kayak

Ready to head out of town?  I've found some really great deals on Kayak.  It checks lots of different sites and lets you know who has the best deals.  You can also do comparative searches with specific sites. I just found an amazing deal on a ticket to Sweden with Vayama, through Kayak.  If you're looking for a hotel we have used the Hotwire name your own price and gotten hotel rooms for $30.00/night(including taxes and fees) in Denver.  You can dictate how many stars you want your hotel to have and what neighborhood.  Of course the fewer stars the cheaper you'll get.  We've ended up at some nice "long term stay" hotels that even have a little kitchenette.  Now with all the money you've saved think of all the fun things you can do with it on vacation.

Signing up for emails can get you discounts

There are lots of benefits to signing up for email notices from some of your favorite retailers.  But there is the con of having your email box overflowing with junk.  But you can always set up an email account with yahoo, gmail or hotmail that is dedicated to junk.  You can check it when you have time and just delete everything when you don't have time to deal with it.  At Basegear (an outdoor gear shop) you can get 20% off retail when you sign up.  I have continued to get 20% off everything I order from them unless it is already on sale.  They offer free shipping on orders of $50.00 or more

Food Saver saves money

FreshSaver Handheld Sealing Kit $9

FreshSaver Handheld Sealing Kit $9 Foodsaver drops the FreshSaver Handheld Vacuum Sealing System from $29.99 to $9 via code E0FV70FS. This cordless handheld device vacuum seals FoodSaver Vacuum Zipper Bags and Deli Containers. It comes complete with a charging stand, 2 deli containers, 5-quart vacuum zipper bags and 5 –gallon vacuum zipper bags. Shipping is $6.
I know you've seen the infomercials about the Food Saver but really I have one and it does keep your food fresh far longer.  I use them in the freezer. I use them a lot for dehydrated camping meals (that is a whole blog of its own).  I've always used the bags not the containers.  The bags are great because you can freeze them and boil them.  You can also wash the bags out and use them again.  This deal is a great way to get into it and see if it is something you'd really use and 9 bucks is a steal.

Groceries for half price. Don't be afraid. Get a deal from the clearance bin

Okay, so I've talked about buying things when they go on sale at City Market or Safeway.  You can save money that way but both stores have clearance bins too.  At Safeway Vail it is back by the restrooms, at City Market Vail they have some bins up front past the check-out counter.  City Market Avon has bins in back of the bread department near dairy.  All of the supermarkets also have clearance areas for meat, bakery and dairy too.  Yesterday I bought a tube of Colgate Total toothpaste from the clearance bin marked $1.39(50% off regular retail) plus I had a coupon for a dollar off.  So I  bought a tube of toothpaste for 39 cents.  You can find all sorts of bargains like that.  I buy milk and eggs in the clearance bin all the time.  Last week I had a coupon for NestFresh eggs that I used on the clearance item and got them for $1.30 a carton for cage free eggs.  They usually sell for $3.89 a carton.  Worried they won't stay fresh until you can use them?  Either crack them open and freeze them or boil 'em up and they keep a week in the fridge.

Get the lead out recycling program is a low cost way to dump toxic electronic waste

"Get the Lead Out" is being held in the RV parking lot east of the Lionshead parking structure May 14th from 10:00-2:00.  You can bring your old computer parts for recycling.  MeTech, who is doing the recycling, ensures data security by destroying the hard drive and will provide you with a certificate guaranteeing the destruction of the disc.  The cost is $5 per computer or small printer; $10 for monitors up to 17” and larger printers; very large items may cost more. There is no charge to recycle keyboards and other accessories with a computer.  Shredding of important documents is also being done by Paper Wise of Glenwood Springs.  The cost is $10.00 a box.  The shredding is done on site and then the shredded paper is either recycled or composted.

“Get the Lead Out” is sponsored by the town of Vail, Eagle County, NRC Broadcasting and All Mountain Technologies. For more information or questions, call Bill Carlson, town of Vail environmental health officer at 970-479-2333, or call Matt Scherr with Eagle Valley Alliance at 970-827-9999.

You don't need a Kinde to read e-books Get the computer app for free

You don't have to buy a Kindle to be able to read ebooks.  Amazon has a free app for your PC or Mac and you can read your books on your computer.  Of course, a computer is a bit bigger than a Kindle tablet but if you have a netbook you're getting closer in size to a book.  And this is a great way to find out if you even like reading ebooks before shelling out the big bucks.
